Il y a quelques semaines, le Whitney museum a déménagé dans le quartier trendy du Meatpacking District. Plus connu sous le nom “The Whitney“, son nouvel emplacement a été célébré comme l’évènement culturel de l’année à New York. Pensé par l’architecte Renzo Piano, la bâtisse imposante située au pied du parc de la HighLine et proche de l’Hudson River, offre une vue impressionnante sur Manhattan. Plutôt réticente à son aspect extérieur, j’avoue que l’intérieur du musée m’a tout de suite séduite. Impatiente, je m’y suis rendue le jour de l’ouverture et heureusement, mes tickets m’ont permis d’éviter la file interminable de centaines de personnes venues le découvrir. Sa nouvelle location lui offrant plus d’espace, le Whitney s’est enrichi d’une collection d’art moderne et contemporain américain plus vaste. Pollock, Hopper, Haring, Bourgeois, Johns et les autres, cette communauté d’artistes où les oeuvres passionnantes cohabitent y sont tous. Chaque étage, chaque pièce éveille la curiosité des visiteurs. Il est facile de s’y promener ou même de s’attarder face aux murs vitrés ou d’admirer la vue depuis les terrasses.
Qu’on soit amateur ou connaisseur, le Whitney est une visite à ne pas rater lors d’un passage à New York. Un lieu incontournable qui me tarde de retrouver et en attendant, je partage avec vous quelques photos pour vous en donner un aperçu.

A few weeks ago, The Whitney Museum of American Art moved to the trendy neighborhood of the Meatpacking District. Simply known as “The Whitney“, its re-opening at its new location has been celebrated as the cultural event of the year in New York. Conceived by the architect Renzo Piano, the gigantic building is located next to the Highline and near the Hudson River. Not only bigger, the new building offers a breathtaking view of Manhattan. I was not particularly fond of its exterior aspect but as I set a foot inside, I was immediately seduced by its interior. I went there on the opening day and was lucky enough to avoid the hundreds of people in line. The bigger space gave the opportunity to expand its rich collection of modern and contemporary art. Pollock, Hopper, Haring, Bourgeois, Johns and others; they are all here. All of their works live happily together and gives the visitors the chance to discover them all at once. Each floor and each room is nicely displayed. It is very easy to navigate the museum, relax in one of the couches by the window, or admire the view on one of the terraces.
Whether you are an amateur or a connoisseur, The Whitney is a place not to be missed while visiting New York and I cannot wait to explore it again soon.
