J’ai passé des moments incroyables et j’ai, comme vous vous en doutez, énormément de photos à vous montrer. Je commence le récit de ce voyage en partageant ma tenue pour une soirée à San Diego dans le quartier très en vogue : le Gaslamp District. 7 jours, 6 nuits en Californie et une seule valise en cabine autorisée, je vous passe les détails de la sélection de vêtements – et surtout la prise de tête.

A lot of you followed my road trip in California this month on social media. Believe me, I have a lot of pictures to show you – California is so pretty and this trip was a breathe of much needed fresh air. First, I would like to show you this outfit that I wore on a night in the trendy Gaslamp District of San Diego. An American in Paris – Broadway Show

La semaine dernière, je suis allée voir la comédie musicale “Un Américain à Paris” sur Broadway. Si vous me suivez sur Instagram ou Facebook, vous avez pu constater mon excitation à l’idée de découvrir ce spectacle. Vous avez été plusieurs à me demander mon impression. Je n’ai qu’un mot: Magnifique! Non, j’en ai plusieurs mais je ne sais par où commencer. J’ai été totalement conquise. C’est l’histoire d’un américain qui, à la fin de la guerre, décide de rester à Paris et de vivre de son art. Il rencontre une jolie ballerine Parisienne, et tombe totalement amoureux. Ce qu’il ignore: ses deux amis sont eux-aussi en quête du coeur de la demoiselle. Bref, c’est très drôle, touchant et captivant. Les décors et illuminations sont époustouflants, tout comme le jeu des acteurs – chanteurs – danseurs. Paris se dessine et s’illumine en arrière-plan pendant que tout ce petit monde s’affole sur la scène. J’ai passé un moment merveilleux qui m’a transporté à Paris le temps d’une soirée.

Last week, an American in New York surprised me with tickets to the American in Paris musical on Broadway. I was so blown away by the entire show that I had to share my thoughts with you. It was an incredible moment. In case you have never seen the movie, it is about an american who decides to stay in Paris after the war and be an artist. He encounters a pretty ballerina and falls instantly in love with her. What he ignores though, is that two of his friends are trying to win the heart of the same demoiselle as well. The play is funny, touching and captivating. The decor and illuminations are breathtaking, so are the acting, singing and dancing. Paris is being drawn on the backdrop while the actors-singers-dancers are playing. It is magical and transported me back to Paris for the night.

Visiter le One World Observatory à New York

L’ouverture au public du haut de la tour du World Trade Center à New York a eu lieu la semaine dernière. Après des années à patienter et à regarder la tour se construire, il était temps d’aller admirer la vue. J’ai beau vivre ici, je suis toujours aussi curieuse de découvrir ce que la ville à offrir. C’est donc avec impatience que j’ai réservé les billets et attendu l’heure de la montée.

Officiellement appelé le One World Observatory, il est le plus haut building de l’hémisphère ouest avec 104 étages et 541 mètres de hauteur (en mesure américaine, 1776 feet – petit clin d’oeil à l’année de la déclaration de l’Indépendance des Etats-Unis). J’avais un peu d’appréhension sur l’ampleur de la sécurité pour la visite ainsi que la longueur de la file d’attente, surtout en jour d’ouverture. Au final, les employés se sont montrés très courtois et ont su rendre l’attente agréable. Avec une montée prévue à 17h45 et une recommendation d’arriver 15 minutes à l’avance, je m’y suis rendue à 17h42, et j’ai de suite été guidée vers la sécurité. Une file d’attente assez courte. Et hop, la visite a commencé!

The opening day of the World Trade Center Observatory in New York was a week ago and I was eager to discover the view from a tower I have seen growing through the years. Even though I live here, I am still very much amazed by everything this city has to offer. I never get tired of it.

Officially named the One World Observatory, it is the tallest building of the Western Hemisphere, with it 104 floors reaching 1,776 feet high (referring to the year of the signing of the Declaration of Independence). I was a little bit apprehensive of the level of security (especially since it was the opening day), but I was happily surprised as everything moved quickly. My tickets were for an entry at 5:45pm, with the suggestion to arrive 15min prior to the visit time. I was there at 5.42pm and was sent inside the building and through security very quickly. The staff was very courteous and friendly, and made visitors feel welcomed.

New York au printemps – Spring season in NYC

Presque 5 ans à New York et je n’arrive toujours pas à me décider quelle saison est ma préférée. La ville est-elle plus belle en hiver, à l’automne, au printemps ou en été? Difficile de prendre position. Ce qui est sûr, New York ne manque jamais de charme.

Avec l’apparition du printemps, l’hiver se fait vite oublier. Même si la période hivernale a semblé interminable, elle prend la forme d’un souvenir lointain dés les premiers bourgeons. La vie reprend gaiement, les New Yorkais envahissent à nouveau les rues sans leurs épaisses couches de vêtements et les visages réapparaissent. Soudain, le vent n’est plus aussi intenable, les jours s’allongent et la ville s’habille de ses pastels éphémères les plus jolis. New York City donne l’impression de frimer et prend des allures de tableaux, ou de se qu’on appelle ici le “picture perfect”.

After almost 5 years in New York City, I still cannot make up my mind on which season is my favorite. Is the city at its most beautiful in Winter, in the Fall, in the summertime or in the Spring? This is a very difficult decision to make. What is certain though, is that New York is charming all year long.

When Spring has sprung, Winter seems like a faraway state, almost forgotten. Sure it was long, but its memory faded at the first bloom. Life seems to regain energy as New Yorkers are invading the streets again, without their grizzly looking like layers as coats. Suddenly, the air is not so frigid. The days last longer and New York City is dressing up with the prettiest pastel colors. After such a long Winter, New York feels like showing off and spreading the message to all its beloved little workers saying, “We made it, we are alive. It is time to go out, explore and enjoy the ride!”.
