Visiter le Grand Canyon & Hoover Dam en une journée

Si vous me suivez sur les réseaux sociaux, vous savez que cette année, j’ai fait l’impasse sur mon costume d’Halloween pour passer la journée au Grand Canyon. J’ai passé la semaine à Las Vegas pour une conférence (et quelle semaine…!) et j’ai prolongé mon séjour jusqu’au weekend pour enfin visiter cet endroit unique.

If you follow me on Social Media, you are well aware that I skipped my Halloween costume this year to spend the day at the Grand Canyon. I stayed the week in Las Vegas for work and took on the opportunity to visit this long time dreamed destination.

Nous avons loué une voiture pour nous échapper de la frénésie de Las Vegas. Quatre heures de route plus tard, le souffle coupé par l’immensité devant mes yeux, je suis restée sans voix. Un moment rempli d’émotions dont les mots ne peuvent décrire. Les photos ne lui font pas honneur non plus : les couleurs, l’ampleur et la profondeur du lieu sont incroyable. Jamais je n’oublierai cet instant et je n’ai qu’une envie: y retourner plusieurs jours pour en découvrir d’autres parties. Pour une première, nous nous sommes concentrés sur la South Rim (visite la plus populaire), mais il est aussi possible de visiter le nord et l’ouest (notamment avec son pont en verre suspendu). Le Grand Canyon est donc un endroit que je ne raye pas encore de ma liste des lieux à visiter car je compte bien y retourner.

Lors du retour à Las Vegas, nous nous sommes rendus sur le Hoover Dam à la frontière entre le Nevada et l’Arizona. Ce barrage célèbre pour son ancienneté (1935) et son immensité (221m de hauteur) a pour mission de réguler les crues du fleuve Colorado. Un style architectural digne d’un roman de science fiction avec une centrale électrique à ses pieds, le barrage Hoover est un lieu touristique qui accueille près d’un million de visiteurs par an.

We rented a car from Las Vegas and after a 4 hour drive, we arrived on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. My excitation was running high, I could not believe I would finally be able to see this wonder. Stepping in front of its immensity, I ended up speechless.  There are indeed no words to describe the emotion running through my veins while admiring the spectacle.  A magnificent and peaceful scenery, my photos surely don’t do any justice to the colors and depths of this place. I will never forget that day. However, this visit was so short that I cannot cross ‘visiting the Grand Canyon’ on my travel bucket list just yet. This first time just got me wanting for more and I definitely need to plan another and more in-depth visit. 

While heading back to Vegas, we also stopped by the famous Hoover Dam at the border of Arizona and Nevada. Inaugurated in 1935 and high of 726 feet, the Dam regulates the Colorado river and produces electricity. With its architectural style very Sci-Fi, it became a tourist spot visited by nearly a million visitors per year.
