Saying Goodbye to Winter in NY – Personal Style blog

There are days when you surprise yourself. Some things you thought you could never do, say or wear. Fur, even if it is faux, is among the fabric I would have never imagined wearing. I remember how my grandma loved her fur coat (real or not, I will never know). Every winter, she would joyfully take it out of her closet (actually mine as she stored it in my bedroom), and wear it with pride.  As soft as it was, I hated the way my grand mother’s delicate silhouette would disappear underneath it.

Then came the time when fur started to be everywhere on the runways, in the stores, on the streets; and my eyes started to get used to it. Not that I wanted one though. I did not think I could handle it. One day, I was browsing in Zara and my eye caught the texture of this coat. I bonded immediately with its style, its cut, its color. I gave myself a week of reflection and ended making a pretty good deal when I bought it on Black Friday. Here I am wearing it on a cold January 1st while visiting Roosevelt Island with my family. I have to thank my brother for taking these photos right before sunset.

So here was the story of me adopting faux-fur. My grandma is heartbrokenly not with us anymore, and though her fur coat is gone as well, the memories are still very much alive. As a strong opinionated woman and a Fashion pro, she would surely have had her thoughts to share about my fur coat, like with everything else she saw me wearing during the last thirty years.

This was the last winter look in New York. What do you think about this faux-fur? Have you also indulged this past winter?

xx Jennie
