4 days in Marrakech

Vous montrez mes tenues au Maroc, c’est bien joli mais le plus important reste quand même mon séjour  – et partager avec vous cette expérience inoubliable. (Enfin, si vous avez manquer ma vie de modèle, c’est ici et ici que ça se passe.)  Lors de mon voyage professionnel en France, j’en ai profité pour m’évader 4 jours à Marrakech. Visiter Marrakech était un souhait depuis très longtemps et je suis heureuse d’avoir mis les pieds cette ville magnifique. Aussi, quelques jours de vacances au Maroc alors que je me trouvais de l’autre côté de l’Atlantique étaient surtout les bienvenus.

C’était il y a un mois maintenant et me replonger dans ces photos me procure une certaine nostalgie – positive- Un voyage de rêve. C’était aussi l’occasion de passer du temps avec la famille qui a accepté de m’y rejoindre.

All the  Summer outfits in Morocco that I shared with you here and here are really nice but let’s be real: nothing compares to the visit of Marrakech itself. While I was traveling to France for business, I set aside 4 days to discover Marrakech. This had been on top of my travel bucket list as long as I can remember. I am so pleased I got to check it off my precious list and visit this gorgeous city. Taking some days off work to travel to Morocco was also the best decision.

My trip to Marrakech was already a month ago and looking at all those photos, I am feeling a bit nostalgic, but in a good way. I also had the chance to spend some time with the family who met me there.

 

DAY 1 – The Medina

Le premier jour, nous sommes restés dans la Medina à découvrir les vieux monuments, les souks, les petites ruelles mais surtout toutes les jolies couleurs et senteurs. Impossible de passer à côté, l’ambiance y est des plus chaleureuse.

The first day, we stayed in the Old Marrakech, famously called The Medina. We roamed around the old architecture and palaces, the local markets, the little streets (believe me when I say it is a real-life labyrinth).  But most of all: the pretty colors and the smells. Marrakech is such a lively, warm and colorful city.

DAY 2 – Le Jardin Majorelle et le Guéliz

Le deuxième jour a été placé sous le signe de la quiétude avec la découverte du Jardin Majorelle. Comme une oasis en plein coeur de l’euphorie sonore de la ville, on y flâne joyeusement entre ses cactus et autres plantes, ses jolis points d’eau et ses murs bleus indigo. Ma visite préférée du séjour et je comprends pourquoi Yves Saint Laurent en était aussi fan.

Le Guéliz est le nouveau quartier en vogue de Marrakech avec ses rues commerçantes. Question shopping, rien de très original mais j’ai trouvé mon bonheur dans le Jardin du Guéliz avec ses champs de roses.

On day 2, we escaped the busy old city to find ourselves in the Majorelle Garden . Like an oasis in the middle of the noisy euphoria of the city, the  Jardin Majorelle  is stunning and breathtaking. With its cactus, flowers, water spots and its indigo blue walls, it is understandable why Yves Saint Laurent was such a fan (he used to live next door at the Villa Oasis).

Then, we discovered the Gueliz neighborhood which represent the New Marrakech with its trendy boutiques, bars and young scene. I particularly enjoyed the Garden of Gueliz and its  fields of roses.

DAY 3 – Cascades d’Ouzoud

Petite excursion d’une journée hors de Marrakech pour découvrir les cascades d’Ouzoud. Environ 2h45 de route pour se retrouver en pleine nature devant un paysage époustouflant. Il faut compter la journée le temps de descendre et de remonter. Une randonnée très agréable accompagnée de petits singes locaux et ânes bien sympathiques. Le hic, est quand même la foule – pas souvent des plus respectueuse du lieu et de ses visiteurs.

On the third day, it was time for a 3-hour road trip on the countryside of Morocco to the Ouzoud Waterfalls. The moroccan landscape is inspiring and the waterfalls are very impressive. Think of it as the Niagara Falls of Morocco (maybe even Africa?…).  It took a day to hike up and down. A little bit of a workout joyfully accompanied by the friendly monkeys and donkeys. Although, the downside of the visit would be the mass of tourists not always very respectful of others.

DAY 4: Journée Piscine

Pour conclure le séjour et après en avoir pris pleins les yeux, rien de tel qu’une journée piscine à Marrakech dans la Palmeraie. Le Dar Sabra est un boutique hôtel de luxe charmant, très calme et au personnel chaleureux. La piscine principale est splendide (je dis principale car en fait, il y en a 4). J’ai adoré cet hôtel moderne, au style cubique et rempli d’art contemporain. Les prix du Dar Sabra sont plutôt abordables, surtout pour le standing de l’hôtel. Si vous ne résidez pas à l’hôtel, vous pouvez opter pour le pass d’une journée qui vous donnera accès à l’hôtel et à la piscine pour une quinzaine d’euros. Malheureusement, je n’ai pas pu y tester le spa, fermé le lundi. Le seul regret de ma visite de Marrakech. Cher hôtel Dar Sabra, je reviendrai!

To end my holiday on a relaxing note, our last day in Marrakech could be entitled: Laziness at its Best! Nothing better than a day by the swimming pool to rewind and enjoy the last day of vacation.  My day was spent at the Dar Sabra, a boutique hotel in the Palm Grove of Marrakech.  It is luxurious, yet pretty affordable, and I can’t emphasize enough how welcoming the staff and the place is. The hotel is modern and elegant with its contemporary art and its 4 swimming pools. Obviously, I wanted the biggest one! (no complex here, just the joy of a good life)

If you are not staying at the hotel, you can still purchase a day pass for less than $20 that will grant you access to the pool. My only regret was that I could not test the spa as it is closed on Monday. Dear Dar Sabra Hotel, I will be back!

Voilà le récit de quatre jours de rêve à Marrakech. Je remercie la famille qui a bien voulu m’accompagner et a toléré mes 4 soirs – 4 couscous. J’avais été enchanté de mon séjour à Agadir quand je n’étais encore qu’une ado (même si je n’étais pas très cool, j’étais déjà voyageuse). Je suis encore plus en émoi pour le Maroc après cette visite inoubliable.

That’s it for my visit to Morrocco. These 4 days in Marrakech were unforgettable. I can’t thank my family enough who accepted to meet me there. They also tolerated my 4 dinners – 4 couscous meal plan. It would not have been the same without them. I remember the last time I was in Agadir, in my not so cool teenage years, and I loved it. After visiting Marrakech, I am even a bigger fan of Morocco.
