Un trench coat, ça fait tellement longtemps que j’en cherchais un.  Toujours trop grand, trop long, trop évasé, trop encombré… J’étais prête à renoncer et à accepter le fait que le trench n’était pas pour moi.  Et puis j’ai trouvé celui-ci par le plus grand des hasards.  Je vous présente aujourd’hui mon trench parfait pour un printemps à New York.

As far as I can remember, I have always wanted a trench coat. I tried so many of them.  They were either too long, too short or too big… And I almost came to accept the fact that trench coats did not suit me after all.  I was so wrong!  All I needed was the perfect one for me and I have finally found it.  Spring season in New York can officially start, my dear!

Mon désir de porter le trench coat remonte à l’adolescence, lors de mon introduction à Breakfast at Tiffany’s.  Audrey Hepburn le portait à merveille dans les dernières scènes du film.  Pour ceux qui ne me connaissent pas ou peu, il est temps de vous faire une révélation: “I’m crazy about Tiffany’s!“.  Je ne compte plus le nombre de visionnages tellement c’est impossible.  Je connais chaque réplique aussi bien en français qu’en anglais.  C’est un des films qui joue en fond sonore quand je travaille, quand je cuisine, quand je fais de la couture…  Et je le regarde attentivement à chaque saison.  Je me souviens regarder ce film avec mon arrière grand-mère à la maison le dimanche en buvant du thé.  Comme j’aimerais revivre un de ces moments précieux.

Alors que je vous écris ces mots, une autre révélation prend son sens : New York, Tiffany & Co, le trench; ç’est en fait avec Breakfast at Tiffany’s que mon obsession new-yorkaise a commencé.

I believe the first time I fell for the idea of a trench coat was while I was introduced to Breakfast at Tiffany’s.  Audrey Hepburn wore it so well in the last scenes of the film.  For those of you who don’t know me, it is time to make a revelation: “I’m crazy about Tiffany’s!“.  I can’t even tell you how many times I have seen this movie.  It is just impossible.  I know all the lines by heart in both French and English.  At times, it is playing in the background when I work, cook, sew…  I also enjoy watching it carefully each season.  A few years back, I would watch it with my great grand-mother at home on Sunday sometimes, while sipping on some English tea.  How I would love to live one of these special moments again! 

As I am writing down these words, another revelation is coming into life: New York, Tiffany & Co, the trench coat… I understand that my New York obsession might in fact have started with Breakfast at Tiffany’s.  It all makes sense.
