Il est temps que je vous parle de mon escale à San Francisco sur le blog. Avec la visite de mon frère à New York, nous avons décidé de faire un road trip en Californie pendant 10 jours. San Francisco, cela faisait 15 ans que je n’y avais pas remis les pieds. Non par faute d’intérêt, mais plutôt par manque de temps. Nous avons commencé notre road trip par San Francisco où nous avons passé 3 jours magnifiques. Le soleil était au rendez-vous, ce qui a rendu la visite d’autant plus agréable.

It is about time that I tell you (and show you) all about my trip to San Francisco last month.  My brother was visiting me in New York for 3 weeks so we decided to do a 10-day road trip in California.  It had been 15 years since my last visit of San Francisco.  Not that I did not want to come back.  But as you know, life goes on, time flies…  San Francisco was our first stop on our Cali road trip and we spend 3 beautiful days here.  The sun was shining and we could not have asked for a better weather to enjoy our stay.

Vous ne le savez certainement pas mais j’ai passé 3 étés en famille près de San Francisco pendant le lycée. Avant de découvrir New York, San Francisco était ma ville de coeur. J’y ai passé de très bons moments. Mais 15 ans ont passé et il était temps d’y retourner et de savourer le charme de la ville. Même si 3 jours offrent un temps beaucoup trop limité pour découvrir la ville de fond en comble, nous avons profité au maximum.

A peine arrivés en milieu d’après-midi, direction Alamo Square pour rendre visite aux célèbres Painted Ladies. Nous avons ensuite traversé le Golden Gate Bridge pour admirer le coucher du soleil depuis Battery Spencer. Une vue plongeante sur le Golden Gate Bridge à couper le souffle (je vous ai d’ailleurs fait une petite dance de joie ici) avant de rejoindre notre AirBnb dans la forêt de Montclair à Oakland.

Nous avons passé les jours suivants à déambuler dans San Francisco:

• Monter à Twin Peaks et sa vue époustouflante sur toute la ville.
• Déambuler dans le quartier hippie d’Haight-Ashbury.
• Serpenter la fameuse Lombard Street en voiture (et à pied).
• Se perdre dans l’immense Golden Gate Park et se retrouver au Botanical Garden.
• Admirer Alcatraz et les lions de mer / phoques / otaries depuis le Pier 39 du Fisherman’s Wharf.
• Se prélasser devant le Palace of Fine Arts.
• Faire une pause déjeuner au Ferry Building et admirer le Bay Bridge.
• Traverser Union Square et s’arrêter pour une séance shopping.
• Profiter du coucher de soleil sur le Golden Gate Bridge depuis la plage de Crissy Fields.

J’en passe et j’en laisse certainement car nous en avons eu pleins les yeux pendant notre séjour. Mais ce qui est certain et que nous avons adoré arpenter la ville particulièrement en voiture (une décapotable, forcément, ça ne déçoit pas), découvrir les différents quartiers et admirer l’architecture et les jolies maisons de ville. San Francisco est une ville très accueillante et sublime. Je ne laisserai plus passer 15 années avant d’y retourner.

What you might not know abut me is that I spent 3 summers near San Francisco with family when I was in High School.  Before my heart fell for New York, it belonged to San Francisco.  I had such great memories of that time.  It is hard to believe it was already 15 years ago.  So it was time to go back and enjoy the charm of Frisco.  Even though 3 days seem short to visit it all, we saw as much as we could and had a blast!

We landed in the middle of the afternoon and went straight to Alamo Square to have a look at The Painted Ladies.  They are as gorgeous as I remembered.  We then headed towards the Golden Gate, crossed the bridge et went up to Battery Spencer to admire our first sunset overlooking the Bay (I shared with you my happy dance here).  The view from there is magical and magnificent.  After a quick dinner, we left to check in our AirBnb in the Montclair forest in Oakland.

We spent the next days in San Francisco and we enjoyed:

• Going up to Twin Peaks to admire the view of the entire bay.
• Roaming around the hippy neighborhood of Haight-Ashbury.
• Driving down Lombard Street without knocking anything or anybody down.
• Losing ourselves in the gigantic Golden Gate Park and finding our way to the Botanical Garden.
• Admire Alcatraz and the wildlife from Pier 39 at Fisherman’s Wharf.
• Resting around the Palace of Fine Arts.
• Having lunch at the Ferry Building overlooking the Bay Bridge.
• Crossing Union Square and going for a little shopping.
• Waiting for our last sunset behind the Golden Gate Bridge on the beach of Crissy Fields.

This is a list of our main visits and activities while in San Francisco. What we really enjoyed as well was driving around town from one neighborhood to another and admiring the architecture and the pretty townhouses. (Renting a convertible was a huge plus for that). San Francisco is so gorgeous and was so welcoming to us. What is for sure is that I won’t let 15 years pass by before setting foot in Frisco again!
